7 Signs It’s Time to Book an Appointment

At Klapmuts Medical Centre, we often hear the question: “Should I go to the doctor for this, or wait it out?”While not every symptom means something serious, some signs should never be ignored.

Here are 7 common reasons to book a consultation with your GP:

1. You’ve Been Sick for More Than a Few Days

If a cold or stomach bug lasts more than 3–5 days or seems to be getting worse instead of better, it’s worth checking in. Lingering symptoms can point to infections that need treatment.

2. You’re Experiencing Unusual Pain

Pain is your body’s warning system. If you have persistent or severe pain — especially in your chest, abdomen, or head — make an appointment. Don’t self-diagnose or ignore it.

3. Your Child Has a High Fever

If your child has a fever over 38.5°C or shows signs of being listless, confused, or dehydrated, they need to be seen. We offer children’s healthcare at Klapmuts Medical Centre and can provide guidance for concerned parents.

4. You Feel Short of Breath or Dizzy

Difficulty breathing, unexplained dizziness, or a racing heart can be signs of underlying health problems. Always have these checked out, especially if you have chronic conditions.

5. You Need a Repeat Prescription or Chronic Care Review

Even if you’re feeling fine, managing chronic illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, or asthma requires regular GP check-ins. We’ll make sure your treatment plan is working and up to date.

6. You’re Feeling Anxious or Mentally Exhausted

Mental health matters. If you’ve been feeling down, stressed, or overwhelmed, our team can help. We take a compassionate, confidential approach to emotional wellbeing.

7. You Just Don’t Feel “Right”

Trust your instincts. If something feels off in your body — even if you can’t name it — it’s always okay to come in. Early detection saves lives.
