At Klapmuts Medical Centre, we believe that true health starts long before a patient steps into our consultation room. It begins in the soil—where fresh, nutritious food is grown, shared, and enjoyed by the community. That’s why we created a vegetable garden right here on our property, transforming an unused parking lot into a thriving patch of green goodness.

What started as a small idea to support local food security and preventative health has blossomed into a full-scale community project. Today, our veggie garden provides fresh produce to patients, farm workers, and residents in and around Klapmuts—offering not just nourishment, but dignity, purpose, and connection.

📰 As Featured in CapeTownEtc

We were honoured to be featured in CapeTownEtc, where journalist Murray Swart captured the heart of the project in his article:“Klapmuts veggie garden: Curing the community with cabbage.”

“Patients can grab fresh vegetables after their appointments, encouraging a preventative approach to health, especially in communities where healthy food is often unaffordable.” — CapeTownEtc

This initiative is more than just a garden—it's a movement toward accessible, community-rooted healthcare.

💡 Why It Matters

We see the effects of poor nutrition every day: high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and fatigue. Yet the solution doesn’t always lie in more medication—it often lies in changing what’s on the plate. That’s what inspired us to create this space, where vegetables like spinach, cabbage, beetroot, and carrots are available to those who need them most.

It’s part of our broader mission to make health proactive, not just reactive.

🤝 A Community Effort

This project wouldn’t be possible without the support of local farms, volunteers, and our team. From the patients who water the seedlings to the farm workers who donate compost and knowledge—this is a truly shared space of healing.
